Purchase and Shipping Process
We insist that all clients wanting to proceed with purchase for horses requiring importation from the United States obtain a pre purchase vetting. Purchase should only precede once conformation from the vet that the horse has passed the vetting. Arrangements for haulage to the quarantine barn can then be made.
Clients are put in-touch with an equine vet for this purpose, giving you direct access to confirm with the equine vet the type of vetting you require. The price of vetting will differ depending on your requirements, and we must add, prices do vary from state to state. You will be required to provide your credit card details to the veterinary direct. We do not take responsibility for this stage in the process thus it is your responsibility to let us know the results of the vetting and if you wish to proceed with the purchase or not.
If at this stage once the client decides to proceed with the purchase, we then require payment for the horse via money wire to our back account, this process allows the tracking of funds by the bank for your added financial security. Payments are made in the client’s native currency to the equivalent dollar exchange rate on the day of purchase. When the payment has cleared into out account the horse will be released for transport to the quarantine barn. New quarantines start every two weeks all year round.
All horses are required to do thirty-day quarantine while the required blood works and paperwork are completed. Payment is due directly to the quarantine barn in the same way as with the veterinary, again you will be in contact with the quarantine barn, and kept abreast of the situation with the quarantine its self. From here, horses coming into Europe are flown into Holland.
(Please note, this is a quarantine for groups of horses flying out from the United States. No horses are kept in isolation. Horses are well stabled or turned out, being exercised on the horse walker everyday if stabled.)
On arrival your horse is again checked by a vet, if stated fit to be hauled they are collected and taken to Dover where they are rested, fed and watered before being sent out to you the next day. If they need to be rested directly from the flight, they are stabled and collected the next day.
At all times the horses, best interest is catered for. Your horse will arrive with a new head collar and lead rope with your horses name and number on it. DEFRA do random checks on horses imported into the United Kingdom and will need to see all the paperwork that arrives with your horse so please keep it safe.
Most horses fly well and arrive like they have just been hauled but it is a long journey and some horses do suffer from jet lag as we do so please allow your horse on arrival hay and water and a nice warm stable for a good sleep.
Newbrook Quarter Horses will talk you through the whole process again nearer the time and can put you in touch with equine insurance companies that will give you the right cover for you and your horses needs.
